Cross Country Day 39: St. Cloud to Minneapolis

Today I found a river

I left St Cloud and headed south on the MRT. (Mississippi River Trail) Well its less of a trail and more of a suggested highway route as you move from town to town. It's been nice for me to check off the names of towns and cities as we got closer to the metro area.

Once on the metro the MRT switched to local residential streets as well as dedicated trail. Made for some real nice enjoyable riding. Art's family was also up these past few days and his wife Michele was kind enough to haul our bags down from St Cloud. Highlights for me were the Coon Rapids dam and seeing the skyline from the river. The great Granbelt sign stood loud and proud over the river. I had a chance to tour the brewery that makes Grainbelt last year and I remember them being so proud of being able to renovate the sign and retrofit it with led lights so it can continue to be a part of the night sky for years to come.

Parked the bikes in the hotel and had a chance to meet one of Alex's great friends from when he was in college, Wes. We toured the Surly brewing company campus and watched the sunset over some of the historic grain mills. it was also my first time riding the Light Rain in Minneapolis. I found myself almost feeling like I was in a brand new city. I've been coming to the Twin Cities for years to spend time with family. We always go to the same places. I've never really experienced it as an experience destination and was so excited to do so. I had a great time and hope to be back again.

At this point in our journey we've gone over 2000 miles. It doesn't hardly seem possible that I could do this. I mean I can write it down and say yes I've done this. But to imagine the physicality of it is truly incredible. I've literally crossed mountains to get here. I've been in towns large and small. As the sun sets I'm reflecting on all I've gotten to see, do, and be in the last month. It is truly something special.

'til next time
