Cross Country Day 44: Lake City to Trempealeau

Today we went forward again

Onward we go! After a couple of days off it was nice to keep moving forward. Edie was kind enough to carry our bags again. Between all 6 of us we can fill a small car with stuff!

After a quick breakfast at the Kwik Trip, Madison and I rode together the first 30 miles or so.

The road was very scenic along the Mississippi. We stopped at the Lake Peppin overlook to get a drink of water and really be in awe of the power of nature. Our path brought us along the MRT till Wabasha. Then we crossed the river and said goodbye to MN. Perhaps a little wistfully, but I'll be back.

Hello, Wisconsin! State number 6! The states are coming faster now as we move further east.

I had to laugh one of the first things we saw when crossing the river was a whole line of fireworks stands. Yes its the 4th. I also think it's more likely to do with WI fireworks laws vs MN's. I'm pretty sure Wisconsin is more lax.

The winding scenic highways continued. On the Wisconsin side it's called the Great River Trail. Things were going awesome. We were successfully dodging rain showers, the weather was nice, then she got a flat. Dang. BUT we were prepared. We swapped for the spare tube. Onward! Then we rode another mile which quickly brought another flat. Dang! We were prepared and had a patch kit. Each of these times I tried to see what was causing the flat but couldn't find it. Onward! After the patch was installed we rode another mile bringing us, yep, another flat.

DANG IT!

At this point we were both kind of frustrated. Thankfully the last repair brought us right to the edge of Buffalo City where we were able to find a sandwich. The bar was a hoppin. We learned that the town of Buffalo City really shows out for the 4th of July and almost doubles in population.

At that point Madison decided to be done for the day and hopped a ride to town with Edie. I still had another 30 miles to go. The car was tempting, but at this point. I've got to do it with my own two feet.

I hurried to Trempealeau because my folks were coming!! They've been super supportive though this ride, and we're excited to meet up with us. They even brought their bikes so we could ride together in the morning. We grabbed a pizza and hung out in the garden of our historic hotel. A few fireworks over the hotel bit otherwise pretty mich to bed. Was to be a long day the next day.

'til next time
