Cross Country Day 53: LaPorte to Berrian Springs

Today I crossed the line

I didn't sleep great last night so I was pretty sluggish getting packed this morning and my peddling also felt meh. But on I went. It was helpful that I knew today was going to be a shorter day. After weeks of long days, a short show place was more in line with what I needed. I picked up a little steam as the day went on but never felt fully in go mode.

The countryside around here is rather pretty. David helped build today's route and gave is an insider's view at the area around his hometown.

We stopped for a snack in Three Oaks. It wasn't till I was in Three Oaks that I realized I was in Michigan. I knew we were close but there wasn't much of an indicator that we had crossed the border line. So hello Michigan! State 9 on our journey. Also crossed to the Eastern time zone. This timezone is number 4 and perhaps the first of our "last"s on this adventure.

Then it was on to Berrian Springs. David's friend Tim joined us for about 35 miles of our day. He's a great guy and was very inspired by our journey. He ended up with a 75 mile day today. I guess I'm slacking. Ha!

One highlight was Holden road. David had found it years ago and was so excited to route us down it. Seemed rather fitting to be a minimum maintenance gravel with the occasional mud puddle thrown in. Art thought so too.

Also I found snow in July! Snow road that. At least I think I'm funny

We're camping at the Shamrock City Park (yes their mascot is the Shamrocks) along the banks of the St Joseph River. Gotta make sure to obey their 5 3/4 speed limit. Tomorrow sounds a little limited for stops so we stopped by the grocery store on our way back from supper at AJs. I haven't had a jar of peanut butter on me since probably Idaho!

'til next time
