A short 20 miles north of Sioux Falls lies Dell Rapids, South Dakota. A small town that is not short on character. In fact you may not even know that you have a piece of Dell Rapids beneath your feet. If you have ever seen concrete or other stone products that have a slightly pinkish tinge, there's a strong chance that that stone is Sioux Quartzite and came from a quarry just south of town. But you came here for a review on the restaurant, and I won't keep you waiting.
Established in 2018 Papa's Pub is a relatively new offering to the area, but it is full of options and flavor. We walked in after a very hot 30 mile gravel ride (my first big gravel adventure mind you), and so did NOT look like the most presentable folks in the world. However that didn't seem to matter as we were greeted with smiles and asked about or adventure.
The menu is very approachable, and you can't beat many of their prices. I had the meatball sub, and really liked it. I spent much of the meal trying to decipher much of the writing on the wax paper sheet that came with the sandwich. Some people out there have a sense of humor when it comes to seafood stories, and I AM HERE FOR IT!
American favorites seem to be a guiding force, and I think they pretty well have it down. In talking with folks around town, I don't think they have a dud on the menu.
White we were there we were treated to a special tour of the FULL ON OPERA HOUSE on the 2nd floor.
Now as great as the restaurant was, I'm a sucker for a historic theater. This place definitely fit the bill. Seating about three hundred, it features a combination of original seating as well as seats saved when the movie theater just a block down the street was renovated.
Now a challenge to you awesome reader. I would love to know when this incredible backdrop was painted. If we could find that answer I would be very grateful. Here's a close up of it because, I mean, it's beautiful!
