The recliner: My best friend and worst enemy

Updated: Aug 11, 2019

I'll be the first to admit I have a very strong relationship with my recliner. It supports me, comforts me at the end of the day, and gives me a place to rest. On the other hand, my recliner has separation anxiety issues. It doesn't like to let me go, and when I'm away it watches me, calling me, beckoning me to come back again.

I think we all have those things in our lives that keep us from doing the things we've set out to do. For me it's not only my recliner, but also my bed and couch. I've often said that evening Matt is much more motivated than morning Matt. I plan out my next day and then my also persuasive snooze button takes over.

I'm working to get better. I'm working to fight those persuasive voices, and I view it as an accomplishment every time I win the argument. My goal is to continue to have more victories than acquiescences. But I know watching, waiting, and pining for my return will be the recliner. And I know there will be moments where I will very much enjoy its comforting cushions. Until that moment comes, I will continue to argue with the recliner. I will continue to argue with my bed. I will continue to argue with anything that beckons me to lazily linger just a little bit longer. I find I'm happier when I win.

'till next time!
